Overview

Saffron Middle Eastern Restaurant, located on Asturias Street in Sampaloc, Manila, brings an authentic Middle Eastern dining experience right to the heart of Metro Manila. Specializing in classic dishes such as Chicken Kabsa, Beef Kofta Kebab, and a variety of flavorful shawarmas, this spot offers a genuine taste of Arabian cuisine that resonates with both longtime aficionados and curious newcomers.

The restaurant shines particularly through its signature sandwiches and platters. The Chicken Sharooq, essentially a larger-than-usual Chicken Shawarma, stands out as a crowd favorite, celebrated for its rich marinated flavors and generous portions. Alongside this, the Beef Kofta Kebab dishes carry an aromatic blend of spices that recall traditional Middle Eastern kitchens, perfectly paired with their fragrant kabsa rice. For those seeking a bit of fusion without losing authenticity, the Shawarma Burrito offers an innovative twist that balances tradition with a modern palate.

What sets Saffron apart is not only the food but the overall dining experience. The staff are praised for their politeness and efficiency, enhancing the welcoming atmosphere. While the space does not cater to large crowds and can sometimes test patience in service speed, the quality and authenticity of the food compensate well for this.

The menu’s appeal is broad yet focused, ideal for students, professionals, and anyone eager to explore Middle Eastern flavors. Fries and addictive dips like their spicy garlic sauce complement the mains, creating a satisfying meal from start to finish. However, some dishes, such as their samosas or certain bread selections, might not suit everyone’s preferences, especially if looking for lighter textures or a student budget-friendly option.

Ultimately, Saffron Middle Eastern Restaurant is a culinary retreat for those longing for an authentic Arabian taste in Manila. Whether recalling memories of Middle East travels or simply craving richly spiced kabsa and shawarma, diners will find a genuine and heartfelt offering here.

3.5/5 Waited so long for our orders and we were the only customers at the time. A couple came in and our food was served at the same time as theirs, if not later. The samosas were too oily for me but it was pretty good, as well as the fries. The chicken shawarma plate was quite underwhelming though. Flavor was alright but the bread was hard to chew at some parts. As for the prices, there are other options around the area that are more student budget friendly.

Came here at around 8:45pm Pros: Food is delicious for the most part Place is clean and spacious Fitting atmosphere for the cuisine Large and filling service sizes Steep prices but worth it Vegan Options Available Cons: No Service Water (they sell bottled instead) Us 4 friends shared our foods with each other and almost unanimously agreed that the Sharooq Platter was the best in terms of price taste and serving portions (ideal for sharing 2-3persons). The Thawm Macaroni is different and is best appreciated if you dont compare it to Italian and/or Filipino pasta. Overall, I wouldn't know if this it the "authentic" Middle Eastern taste, but it's worth the glimpse. Will be coming back again.
